Grace Chosen to Participate in Energy Assessment Pilot Program

Energy assessments (which include surveys and audits) are an excellent way to assess the efficiency of a building and a great starting point to help determine where to begin making green improvements. In an effort to promote such assessments and identify common results that may be applicable to a number of common building types, the City of Alexandria has developed an energy assessment pilot program. This program is funded by the Department of Energy's Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant (EECGB) awarded to the City in 2009.

Over the next six months, the City will provide, free of cost, a total of twelve (12) assessments to building owners in Alexandria. Four (4) assessments will be basic energy surveys and eight (8) assessments will be more comprehensive audits of the building and its systems. Interested building/homeowners were encouraged to complete an online application to be considered for a free assessment. The randomly selected buildings were announced in April, 2011 and the first of the assessments were completed in June, 2011, Grace Episcopal School and Church being one of those sites.

As results are compiled, information will be posted to the Green Building Resource Center at http://www.alexandriava.gov/gbrc/ for others to review and consider implementing the energy efficiency and conservation measures recommended in the reports. Grace Episcopal School and Church is expected to receive the results of its assessment by the end of October, 2011.
